The Documentary
God
& Gays: Bridging the Gap explores the religious struggle
reconciling sexuality and spirituality. It gets into the head,
heart and lives of the people who have found homosexuality and
the Bible as their self-defining work.
An interview with Rev. Dr. Mel White, co-founder of SoulForce,
talks about Jesus' perspective. Rev. Deborah L. Johnson discusses
that this is a very basic diversity issue and asks the question:
do you love me for who I am or for what I do?
Jason Stuart, an out Jewish comic and actor in Los Angeles describes
in detail the loss of his relationship to his sister and her kids
due solely to his orientation. Some are still “in the closet,”
some have previously attempted suicide and Mary Lou Wallner, a
fundamentalist mother who got her once wish when her daughter
killed herself. Author Darlene Bogle echoes this as she describes
her 15 years in Exodus International before recognizing she was
ultimately numbing her humanity.
God and Gays: Bridging the Gap wrestles through the eyes
and experiences of people wanting a relationship with the very
religion that rejects them - Christian (Lutheran, Presbyterian,
Episcopalian, Methodist, Baptist) Mormon, Catholic, Jehovah's
Witness, Jewish, Muslim and more. No matter the religion, the
experience of oppression and repression is the same. Fortunately,
many soon find it's God that brings them out.
Finally a documentary to break the silence and open dialogue when
it's hard to talk openly. God & Gays puts the face
and heartbeat of humanity into the emotionally-charged issue and
answers:
- what is the "gay agenda"?
- Is being gay a choice?
- What does the Bible say?
- Is it possible to be gay AND religious or must we choose?
- And MANY more...
God & Gays is a content-driven open and honest reflection
of what it’s like to be gay and religious in America. Learn more

What People Say About the Documentary:
"God & Gays shows common human experiences and
the journey of reconciling personal faith with sexual identity.
I'm straight, Christian, work at a Christian school and I give
this movie a big thumbs up." Matt V.
"This film gives a second look at how the homophobia of
our society has affected our religious beliefs, just as it was
in sexism, racism and other unChristlike bigotries." E. DeLair
"I thought the film was well done in showing the humanity,
love and life of gay people, who are in fact created by God and
are often times oppressed, restricted and shunned for being God's
creation. Who are we to be treating God's creation like that?"
T. Harell
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part, then I shall understand fully, even as I have
been fully understood.
I Corinthians 13:12
